Elecs advance to semis with win over Colts

The ECS Elecs football team is off to the semifinals in Moose Jaw High School Football League action after defeating the Swift Current Colts 21-9 on Tuesday.

The Elecs (2-4) now take on the undefeated Vanier Vikings in Saturday's semi in Moose Jaw. Estevan held Vanier scoreless for nearly three full quarters last Friday in their regular season finale.

After a scoreless first quarter, Dustin MacCuish got the Elecs on the board with a 73-yard rushing major on the first play of the second quarter. Swift Current later added a 29-yard field goal.

Late in the half, the Elecs went to running back Jaren Prokop on a fake punt to set up a 32-yard touchdown pass to Stefan Seipp, who is normally a defensive lineman but has played both ways the last two weeks due to injuries. The Elecs then went for two on a handoff to Julian Rioux and got it to take a 14-3 lead at the half.

The Colts got their first touchdown with 6:48 left in the fourth quarter on a 29-yard pass that appeared to hit the ground as the Swift Current receiver dove to catch it.

After an injury to MacCuish, the Elecs gave Colton Bachorcik a chance as their feature running back and he plunged for a four-yard major with 1:26 remaining to give the Elecs a 21-9 lead.
