It’s not about the Villa, it’s about the SHR

There’s been a lot of discussion, both in the Journal and in the community, about the eviction of the 10 seniors from St. Mary’s Villa.
Somehow, some people seem to think that the 10 seniors are responsible for tarnishing the Villa’s good name.
Nothing could be further from the truth. They have the highest regard for local Villa staff, and consider many of them friends. They also have the highest regard for the residents, including the 32 people in the Dust Wing, and were more than willing to give up their homes for the safety of those people. A number of them volunteered at the Villa when they were still able, indeed some did right up until this disastrous incident.
The problem is — and has always been — the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) and how it has treated 10 elder citizens of Humboldt with extreme disdain and disrespect, putting pressure on them that even young, healthy people would have trouble dealing with.
The 10 seniors are the victims, like the Villa, of the SHR. They deserve your support to make the SHR accountable.
Last time it was carbon monoxide. This time it is eviction. Next time, it could be your loved ones — staff or residents.
