Lucas Stubel leads Coalers to Big Six championship

Lucas Stubel

The Bienfait Coalers are back-to-back champions of the Big Six Hockey League.

The Coalers defeated the Midale Mustangs 5-2 on Wednesday in Midale to win the Big Six final in six games.

The series was a rematch of last year's final.

Defenceman Lucas Stubel, who graduated from the Bruins last year, led the Coalers with a hat trick. Two of those goals came in a 29-second span in the third period to put the game out of reach. The Estevan native's first goal, back in the second period, was the game-winner.

Bienfait also got goals from Lorne Tytlandsvik and former Bruin and Red Wing Brennan Wrigley in the first period.

Here is an on-ice interview with Stubel immediately after the final buzzer.

See Friday's Southeast Trader Express for more on the game.
