Over the past several years there has been much controversy in our community about the need for a multipurpose recreational facility for the Battlefords. The facility is nearing completion, and whether you were a staunch supporter or an outspoken opponent to the project, it is a reality.
I was thinking recently about how proud I will be in the future to take my kids and grandkids to see this wonderful facility. I also smiled at the thought that I can proudly tell them I supported this project and our name will show on the donor recognition wall.
That made me think of the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people in our community who will not be able to point their names out on the donor wall.
Many community minded people have stepped forward and made donations, large and small, to the CUPlex. This is wonderful, but there are many more who could, but to date, have not.
The fundraising committee is so close to their goal of $10 million, but this is a small group of people and it is impossible for them to personally ask each and every member of our community to give.
I am not part of the committee, and I don’t even live in the Battlefords, but I am asking that everyone dig deep and write a cheque to help reach this goal. It is something of which we can all be proud.
