A two-day intensive dog training and education program geared towards training dogs of all ages, starting at six months old, took place Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 at Memorial Hall.

The short course taught manners in and out of the home, clicker basics, health, nutrition and grooming, problem solving, tricks and much more fun and most importantly socialized the dogs with other dogs and people.

The dog breeds in attendance ranged from a Palm Yorkie to a Pit Bull, and a wide variety in between.

By the end of each day even the most energetic dogs were tired out, along with their newly knowledgeable owners.

The most enjoyable parts of the day were when the canines got together for some good old fashion game time. As the music began, dogs pranced around colorful mats placed on the floor, and when the music paused dogs began a battle of being the first to sit at their owners’ command.

Dogs that came into the seminar shy, left with a new confidence and a new little black book of friends to invite for walks.

After already having more inquiries about future training sessions, the training team of local dog groomer Andrea McEwen and her good friend, Brandon animal health technician, Stephanie Inkster are hoping to put more events on in the late summer or early fall, with plans of trying to branch out and go to Estevan and Weyburn.
