A house on 93rd Street was destroyed in a major fire Wednesday.

North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services responded to the fire on the 1700 block of 93rd Street on June 20th at around 4 p.m.

According to the fire department, within six minutes of being dispatched fire crews arrived to find a single-family dwelling basement fire that had extended into the main floor.

In response to reports from bystanders about possible victims, firefighters decided to use the recently-acquired DSPA fire suppression device and make entry to attempt a search.

Soon after, it was confirmed all residents were accounted for, and rapidly changing fire conditions led to a change of tactics. Crews fought the fire defensively until it was brought under control.

In total 18 firefighters in seven fire apparatus and command units fought the blaze for four hours. Also on the scene were WPD Ambulance, the RCMP, bylaw enforcement, SaskPower and SaskEnergy. The fire department also says the assistance of the City of North Battleford Public Works Department had an impact on suppressing the blaze.

In a statement, Fire Chief Pat MacIsaac said this was a “well-established fire, the basement area was almost fully involved by the time our first crew arrived on scene.

“Firefighters needed to gain access to the main level and attic area through the exterior as parts of the floor had collapsed.”

There were no injuries reported, though one resident of the home was assessed at the scene by paramedics.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the RCMP at 446-1720. The damage from the blaze was estimated at over $300,000.
