Saturday brought terrific weather for the second day of the bantam AA and peewee AA baseball provincials taking place in Estevan. But a thunderstorm hit the city in the evening, with a brief stretch of torrential rain, casting doubt on whether the fields at Cactus Park will be in good enough shape Sunday to proceed with the tournament.

It appears no decision will be made on what to do until Sunday morning. The bantam semifinals are currently scheduled to start at 10 a.m., followed by the peewee semis at noon.

As for Saturday's action, both the bantam Haulers and peewee Tornados punched their ticket to the semis.

The Haulers whipped Martensville 23-3 in their morning game to finish atop Pool A with a 2-0 record. That gave them a bye to the semis, where they will face Swift Current after the Indians dumped Martensville 17-7 in the quarter-finals Saturday night.

The other semi will feature Melfort against Carlyle. Melfort was first in Pool B at 2-0. Carlyle was third in Pool B at 0-2 but beat Yorkton 7-5 in the other quarter-final.

The other round-robin bantam scores Saturday were Melfort 16, Carlyle 12; Yorkton 16, Martensville 6; Melfort 10, Swift Current 2.

The Pool A standings had the Haulers at 2-0, Yorkton at 1-1 and Martensville at 0-2. In Pool B, it was Melfort 2-0, Swift Current 1-1, Carlyle 0-2.

In the peewee provincials, the Tornados also hammered Martensville in the morning, by a score of 24-6. They were on the receiving end in their last game though, being pounded 17-0 by Muenster.

The Tornados finished second in Pool A at 2-1 and will play Lloydminster (3-0, first place in Pool B) in the semis on Sunday. The other semi sees Yorkton play Muenster.

The final Pool A standings: Muenster (3-0), Estevan (2-1), Swift Current (1-2), Martensville (0-3). The final Pool B standings: Lloydminster (3-0), Yorkton (2-1), Moose Jaw (1-2), Weyburn (0-3).
