Seatbelts and cellphones.
That’s what members of the RCMP were watching for as people travelled into Humboldt last week.
On July 27, between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Saskatoon Regional Traffic Services and the local RCMP teamed up to perform a small traffic blitz, reported Const. Trevor Scott of the Humboldt RCMP.
Members set up a traffic stop at 8th Ave. and 4th St. in Humboldt to spot motorists not complying with the statutes of the Saskatchewan Traffic Safety Act, with a  focus on seatbelt and cellphone use.
 A total of 26 tickets were issued in this two-hour period.
Thirteen tickets were issued for driving a vehicle while failing to wear a seatbelt properly — a fine of $175.
Eight tickets were for a passenger failing to wear a seatbelt properly — also a fine of $175.
One ticket was issued for driving a vehicle with an unrestrained passenger under the age of 16, another charge which carries a $175 fine.
Two tickets were issued for drivers using  electronic communications equipment while driving — using their cellphones — a fine of $280.
One fine of $115 for having an inadequate windshield was handed out, and another fine of $115 was given for unlawfully having a sunscreen or reflective material on the front side windows (window tint).
“Motorists are reminded to use seatbelts at all times and when using their cellphone to wait for a safe place to pull over and talk,” said Scott.
