The North Battleford Good Neighbour Network has been hosting the Neighbourhood Wellness Block Party for few years.
With a number of volunteers, musicians and the support of donations from businesses and people, the event has featured free hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, live music, face painting and kids’ prizes.
“This yearly annual event is about neighbours getting to know each other, to share and have fun,” explains NBGNN spokesperson Steven Cormons.
“It’s a way to tell those who care about safe comfortable neighbourhoods that we are there for each other and let those who don’t care know we are watching out for each other.”
The event is also an opportunity for community stakeholders to share information, have booth space, put on an activity or promote their agenda of neighbourhood wellness.
Last year the event was at the North Battleford Library Park but organizers found moving it from the original site on 107th Street was much too labour intensive. This year NBGNN will be holding the Neighbourhood Wellness Block Party on the original site, the 1200 Block of 107th Street, Sept. 8 from noon to 6 p.m.
The network is hoping to supply hot dogs and refreshment for free to everyone who attend. Children’s activities will be on the agenda and performers have come forward to donate their time. The event has a stage sponsor, the sound system and have a few prizes for children organized
“We still need hot dogs, buns, condiments, refreshments, portable potties/sewer services, photocopying and more kid’s prizes,” Cormans says. “No cash donations, only in-kind donations please.”
The network invites everyone in the Battlefords to take part. Community organizations that promote neighbourhood wellness are invited to join in to share their information and will be allowed table or booth space if they wish.
“Aside from social, health and justice organizations, businesses are just as much a stakeholder in safe, comfortable neighbourhoods and donations from local business would be greatly appreciated,” Corman adds.?

“I would like to thank all those who donated last year and those who continue to donate every year,” Cormans says.
