Float plane crashes near Kelowna, B.C., with 3 people aboard

KELOWNA, B.C. - A float plane carrying three people has crashed in British Columbia.

Initial reports said five people were aboard the de Havilland Beaver aircraft when it went down on Sunday evening near the community of Peachland, southwest of Kelowna.

But Capt. Greg Clarke of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria says three people were on the plane, but he did not have any information on fatalities or injuries.

A coroner is joining two Transportation Safety Board investigators travelling to the scene to determine a cause of the crash.

A spokesman for the TSB says the plane went down along Highway 97 west of Peachland and burst into flames.

The plane was travelling from Okanagan Lake to Pitt Meadows, 40 kilometres east of Vancouver, when it went down.
