Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia named AL player of the week

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia was named the American League player of the week on Monday.

Arencibia had four home runs, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored in six games last week. He batted .360 and went 9-for-25 during that span.

It's the 26-year-old's first weekly MLB honour and marks the first time a Blue Jays catcher has won the award.

Arencibia is now batting .256 on the season with seven home runs, seven doubles and 26 RBIs.

He ranks second among catchers in the AL in RBIs and slugging percentage (.504).
