A concert by a talented Saskatchewan musician will launch the new Spark program in Estevan.

Rachel Elizabeth, formerly known as Fern, will perform at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum (EAGM) on May 26, starting at 8 p.m. Elizabeth, who hails from Saskatoon, is fond of poetic lyrics and understated arrangements that she hopes will linger with listeners. She covers such topics as angst, love and weird thoughts people get stuck in their head before bed.

Written with the support of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Elizabeth’s upcoming album Wildflowers of the Prairies is set to be released in late 2017.

The concert is a partnership between the EAGM and the Spark committee, which is a project of the Estevan Arts Council through the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC).

Spark is an OSAC initiative that has been established in other communities in the province. Its mandate is to have young people engaging other youths in the arts through special events.

Spark committee members are to be under the age of 30, but people of all ages are welcome to attend Elizabeth’s concert.

While the first event for the local Spark committee is a concert, they will have other events besides concerts in the future.
