The arts and crafts room at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum (EAGM) was near capacity from April 3 to 5, as many children attended the Spring Nature Smarts camp and got a chance to participate in various activities.
The Estevan Area Literacy Group (EALG) and the EAGM teamed up to host the three-day class.
Nature Smarts has been hosted by the EALG for several years as a summer program, and it is planned to once again happen this summer.
Volunteer Justyn Herzberg, who was helping out with the Nature Smarts activities on April 3 at EAGM, said it’s great to have so many kids around all making a mess with the imitation chicken eggs they worked with that day, but she is happy to see the kids enjoying themselves.
Each child had a foil-cooking pan that they filled with watercolour paints and went about colouring their eggs. The idea was to stain them a certain colour first and then paint them.
Herzberg noted that the hardest part was teaching the kids how to dye their eggs a certain colour since all they wanted to do was play with the soapy colouring dye in their foil-cooking pan, but it all worked out with the kids going home with some festive Easter egg.
The event was offered to children ages five to 10, and was free to attend.
