The City of Estevan is alerting residents that there may be a water supply issue following a transmission line break at the water treatment plant on Friday.

The leak has been isolated, however two of the three transmission lines into the city have been disabled. The water is safe to drink, but the treatment plant is currently only able to distribute about half the amount of water it normally does. City Manager Amber Smale noted the City is taking advantage of its reserve supply as well.

The City isn’t issuing water restrictions at this time, but it is encouraging residents to be mindful of their water usage this week, especially when temperatures begin to rise later in the week.

The water treatment plant will continue operating on a 24-hour cycle until the leak is repaired. Smale said it is hoped the repairs will begin by no later than Tuesday and will be complete by the end of the week.

Should there be a further delay, water restrictions will be implemented, and the public will be notified at that time.
