Man charged with second-degree murder makes first court appearance

Nathan Russell Mullen, charged with second-degree murder following a homicide in Estevan on Monday night made his first appearance in Estevan provincial court this morning.

Mullen was represented by Legal Aid lawyer Robert Grimsrud after being escorted to the courthouse from Estevan Police Service.

After presiding Judge Karl Bazin read the charge into the record, Grimsrud requested the matter be adjourned until May 8, at which time Mullen will make his next appearance via closed-circuit television.

The Estevan Police Service has confirmed the suspicious death on Monday night of 27-year-old Leslie Erin Dwyre is a homicide.

Nathan Russell Mullen has been charged with second-degree murder and is now in police custody. The 30-year-old will make his first court appearance on April 24 in Estevan provincial court.

The accused and deceased are known to each other, according to an Estevan Police Service press release.

The Estevan Police Service has announced it is investigating a suspicious death that occurred in the city Monday night.

In a press release, the EPS said further details will be released once a post mortem is completed and the next of kin of the deceased have been notified.

The deceased in the suspicious death investigation has been described by the EPS as a female in her late 20s.
