A man facing child pornography charges appeared in Estevan provincial court on April 27, where he was released. He will be back in court on Sept. 21 to enter a plea.

Andrew Ferrer of Houston, Texas was released from custody on April 27 in Estevan provincial court on a $3,000 cash recognizance.

Ferrer, who is facing child pornography charges, was given the green light for his release on April 13, but because the cash bail wasn’t available at the time, his case was adjourned and his release was finalized on Monday.

Presiding Judge Lane Weigers accepted the joint submission for Ferrer’s release, which included various restrictions like no contact with anyone under the age of 16, and staying away from public parks, schools and community centres for the duration of his release. Ferrer is also prohibited from using any wireless device or computer system.

The Crown said Ferrer was to be collected by an acquaintance at the border services.

Ferrer will appear in court on Sept. 21 for pleas.

Ferrer was arrested on April 2 at the North Portal international border crossing and has been accused of attempting to smuggle in child pornography.

He was charged with possession of child pornography and importation of child pornography.

A number of computer storage devices were seized by members of the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) for further investigation.
