Men involved with kidnapping appear in court

Ackrill was originally charged with kidnapping, uttering death threats, forcible confinement, kidnapping for the benefit of a criminal organization, and breach of probation order on June 23.

Twenty-three-year-old Daniel Lowenberg, also from Estevan, who was charged with kidnapping, uttering death threats, forcible confinement, kidnapping for the benefit of a criminal organization, production of marijuana and breach of an undertaking, appeared in court on Oct. 20 as well.

Both men were allegedly involved in incidents that took place at the southeast end of the city late June, where two other men in a house were held against their will.

Lowenberg's matters were adjourned to Nov. 24 where he will seek council, as he hasn’t been able to obtain legal aid up to this point.

A third man, Kolby Iezzi, 24, who spearheaded the operation with the co-accused appeared in Estevan provincial court on Sept. 10 and was released on a $20,000 cash bail.

In other proceedings, Nathan Mullen, charged with second-degree murder following the homicide of 27-year-old Leslie Erin Dwyre is a homicide that occurred on April 21, 2014, appeared via closed-circuit television in Estevan provincial court as well. The defense said they were still waiting for disclosure from police.

Mullen will appear in court via closed-circuit television on Nov. 24.
