The We Day club at Spruce Ridge School has been busy as of late through their annual We Scare Hunger campaign.

Club members presented 1,051 items to the Estevan Salvation Army’s food bank on Halloween. The total surpassed the 1,021 items they collected last year.

Spruce Ridge’s We Day club consists of 46 students in grades 6 to 8. Other initiatives planned for this year include supporting the Operation Christmas Child shoebox campaign, singing Christmas carols with seniors in December, hosting a spring fling dance, participating in the “We are Silent” campaign that focuses on the voice of women, and hosting a family barbecue fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity (HFH) in the spring.

A main focus for the club over the next 18 months is going to be connected with HFH. Jody Copeland, a learning-support instructor at the school, and the overseer of the We Day club, said the students will develop a plan to fundraise $2,500 for an HFH house in a developing country.
