For the past two years, the school community council (SCC) at Stoughton Central School has been fundraising for new playground equipment, and on Nov. 3, their goal came within reach, thanks to a generous donation of $15,000 from the Richardson Foundation through Richardson Pioneer.

“Communities are able to apply for funding and Richardson Foundation donates to projects in the area and throughout Canada,” said Mike Sarada, a grain merchant at the Estevan location.

Sarada and crop inputs manager Tye Olson then presented a cheque to Amanda Baumgartner, chair of the SCC.

“Our goal was $50,000,” Baumgartner said. “We have been fundraising since January 2015 and this donation brings us to $42,900; so, we plan on putting a down payment on playground equipment at the end of the year and begin installing next year.”

“We rolled a lot of dirty tires [for a fundraiser], hosted a dinner theatre, sold poinsettias, and have done numerous other fundraisers, and this generous donation brings us within reach,” she added later.

Baumgartner said they would be selling poinsettias and wreaths again this year, with a deadline to purchase of Nov. 24. Interested people can contact the school.

The Richardson Foundation has supported splash parks, playgrounds, sports fields, arenas, community halls, volunteer fire departments and more.
