EPS members handle calls for thefts, driving issues

Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) have handled calls regarding thefts, driving complaints and more in recent days. Officers responded to a complaint of a man threatening to harm himself during Sunday’s night shift.

Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) have handled calls regarding thefts, driving complaints and more in recent days.

Officers responded to a complaint of a man threatening to harm himself during Sunday’s night shift. He was arrested under the Mental Health Act and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. At the hospital, the 47-year-old man kicked an officer, and is now facing charges for assaulting a police officer and mischief, after he damaged the door to a police vehicle. He will appear in court at a later date.

Police responded to an alarm at a business. The building was found to be secure.

Members attended to a 911 hang-up call at a local hotel. Staff members were checked on and all was fine.

Officers transported a second male to the hospital, after a complaint of an 18-year-old threatening to harm himself. He was kept for observation and no further police involvement was necessary.

Police attended to a commercial business alarm in central Estevan during the Jan. 15 night shift. The business was secure and there weren’t any signs of forced entry.

Members received a report of a homeless man at a local convenience store. The caller was concerned for the individual and offered to buy him food. Police were unable to locate the man.

Officers received a report of a domestic assault during the Jan. 16 night shift. The parties were separated for the evening and the matter is still under investigation.

Police received an anonymous report of a drug deal taking place in a motor vehicle parked on the street in downtown Estevan. Attempts to locate the vehicle were unsuccessful.

Members were alerted to a gas theft from a local service station during the Jan. 17 day shift. Police are looking into video surveillance and the matter is under investigation.

Officers attended to an alarm complaint at a local business. Police checked the business and it was learned that one of the employees had accidently set off the alarm, and that there wasn’t an emergency. No further police action was required.

Police were alerted to several thefts of merchandise from local businesses during the Jan. 18 day shift. Officers are looking into video surveillance footage from the businesses and the matters are under investigation.

Members located two people who had suspended drivers licenses and were operating a motor vehicle during the Jan. 18 night shift. Both were issued traffic tickets and had their vehicles seized, one for 30 days due to it being his first offence, and the other for 60 days as it is the second time in a month that the driver has been stopped.

Police conducted several curfew checks around the city of people who are on court-ordered conditions. Among the checks that were completed, all of the subjects were home except for one. The male will now face a charge of breaching conditions. Police will attempt to locate and summon him to court but if those attempts are unsuccessful then a warrant will be requested.

Police were called to a downtown establishment to a female who was refusing to leave. The female had left on her own just prior to police arriving.
