Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) have been busy looking for impaired drivers, and have handled other calls in recent days.
Officers were very active on traffic patrols during the April 6 and 7 night shifts, looking for impaired drivers, and are happy to report there were no impaired drivers located. The EPS noted for the April 7 night shift that designated drivers were utilized and numerous taxis made trips from the Estevan Strippers cabaret at the Power Dodge Curling Centre.
In other recent police news, officers were dispatched to a central Estevan establishment during the April 5 night shift, on the report of a disturbance. The two males involved were spoken to, and one of them was prohibited from re-entering the establishment. An allegation of an assault was made and remains under investigation.
Police responded to a burglar alarm at a residence in northeast Estevan, but the alarm proved to be false upon police arrival.
Officers received a report during the April 6 day shift of a vehicle that was losing portions of its load en route to the city landfill. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was warned that he could be charged.
Police, the Estevan Fire Rescue Service and Estevan Emergency Medical Services members were called to an accident in the 400-block of King Street. There were no injuries to occupants of the vehicles. One vehicle had to be towed from the scene of the accident. The damage to the two vehicles combined will be approximately $10,000. The driver of the westbound vehicle was issued a ticket for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left.
Officers received a report of a suspicious vehicle outside a government office building. The vehicle was checked and the individual was waiting to pick up somebody.
Police were asked to attend to a public facility to provide a presence.
Members received a complaint during the April 6 night shift of a possible fraud involving parties portraying themselves as Canada Revenue Agency employees.
Police attended to a complaint of a male possibly violating the terms of his conditional sentence order. The matter is still under investigation.
Officers responded to an alarm at the curling centre. City of Estevan employees were contacted and assisted in locating and correcting the issue.
Police received a complaint during the April 7 day shift about a vehicle parked in a residential area for an extended period of time. Police attended and marked the vehicle. A parking ticket will be issued if it isn’t moved.
Members received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line. The vehicle was a company vehicle and the driver was inside a local liquor establishment and believed to be impaired. The vehicle was checked a short time later and the driver was not impaired.
Police attended a commercial business alarm. The building was secure and the key holder was unavailable.
Officers conducted a check during the April 7 night shift on male on court-ordered release conditions. The male was not abiding by his curfew and new charges are pending and a warrant has been sought for his arrest.
Members attended to a complaint of female possibly using drugs in a vehicle in the parking lot of a business. She was located and matter is still under investigation.
