Members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service were called to a vehicle fire just before noon Thursday in northwest Estevan.

Fire Chief Dale Feser said the vehicle was still on fire when firefighters arrived on the scene. The homeowner was trying to extinguish the fire with water in a bucket.

“Fire suppression crews took over, and we extinguished it with a fire extinguisher, followed up by a fire truck, and then we de-energized the vehicle because it appeared to be an electrical issue in nature at the time,” Feser said.

Crews remained on the scene to ensure the complete extinguishment of the vehicle, which suffered what Feser described as “minor damage.” But it will not be drivable at this time.

The cause of the fire appears to be a malfunction of the ventilation fan in the cabin portion.

The vehicle was idling at the time of the fire. Feser said it was started about 10 minutes before the fire occurred.

“The owner of the vehicle went out to go check on it, and noticed smoke that was coming out of the vehicle, so he quickly turned the vehicle off, however the vehicle still continued to burn.”

No injuries occurred due to the fire.
