The Lampman Swimming Pool will be among the beneficiaries from a recent fundraiser in the community.

The Lampman Library hosted its annual Ladies Night fundraiser, named Once Upon a Time, on April 14 and organizer Toney Johnson was happy to see the large number of people and vendors who attended.

The money raised will be spilt between the pool committee and the library board.

“This year the money that we raised is going towards relining the pool in town. The library is in a good place finically so we wanted to help with everyone having a pool to enjoy for the next few years,” said Johnson.

“We teamed up with a newly formed committee and it is called the Lampman Swimming Pool committee that has allowed us to make our fundraiser about the pool in Lampman,” she added.

Johnson noted that a lot of vendors and people came out to the event and she believes that everyone had a great time.

“We actually had 17 tables that were purchased … and that is a really good turnout. We had over 40 prizes so those were all donations from the southeast region from places like Estevan, Lampman and Carlyle,” she said.

There was also entertainment at the event that had a lot of people excited and getting involved.

“Our entertainment was through a company in Saskatoon and they brought what was called Big Screen Big Fun, and that event was run a bit like a Jeopardy board game,” said Johnson.

“The host spilt up all the contestants into different teams and they just took part in a variety of different game show type games and they were very fun,” she added.

There were also prizes and games that could be played and people were contributed hand items to the fundraiser.

“Our door prize was a handmade quilt our outgoing chairperson made for us and its theme was a bookshelf that said ‘Once upon a time in a land far, far away,’” said Johnson.

“Having that name on the bookshelf made sense because our theme this year was Once Upon a Time, so we encouraged everyone to dress up as their favourite literary character.”

Johnson noted that most people did dress up and that just added more fun to the event.

She believes that getting the liner replaced in the pool is important, and was happy to join with the Lampman Swimming Pool Committee.

“We want to get the liner replaced because of how much people use the pool in the summertime. There are swimming lessons almost every day in the morning time and in the afternoon is the public swim times,” said Johnson.

Johnson noted that the pool normally opens up in June around the sports weekend, but for the last few years, it’s been colder and the pool has ended up opening closer to mid-June rather than at the beginning of the month.

“The pool could be open a bit past the end of August but a lot of our lifeguards are students and they have a tendency to leave around the end of that month,” said Johnson.

“At least this year that won’t be a bad thing because around that time, the installation of the new swimming pool liner is supposed to go in,” she added.
