Southeast communities receive gaming grants

Several communities from southeast Saskatchewan were among 1,100 groups and organizations that received more than $1.2 million from the provincial government through its charitable gaming grant program.

Several communities from southeast Saskatchewan were among 1,100 groups and organizations that received more than $1.2 million from the provincial government through its charitable gaming grant program.

The grants are provided to groups and organizations that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities, such as bingos, raffles, break-open ticket sales, Texas hold’em poker tournaments and Monte Carlo events.

A grant equivalent to 25 per cent of the net proceeds raised from the gaming activity is automatically provided to the groups and organizations when they submit their charitable gaming reports.

Numerous projects in Estevan shared a total of $37,514.26 from the government. The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins hockey team received $482.50. Other groups receiving support were the Estevan atom AA Bruins ($242.50), the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins ($16,030.36), the Pure Energy Early Learning Centre and Estevan Daycare Co-operative ($2,840.34), the Estevan Elks Lodge ($4,105.81), the Estevan Minor Hockey Association ($30), the Estevan Sharks water polo club ($2,049.60), the Estevan Snowmobile Club ($25), the Royal Canadian Legion’s Estevan branch ($11,505.65) and the Woodlawn Regional Park Authority ($202.50).

Projects in Arcola received more than $10,000, as the Arcola Daycare Inc. received $4,453.31, while the Optimist Club of Arcola received $5,659.82. Three projects in Bienfait received more than $2,500: the Bienfait Coalfields Memorial Arena ($1,767.25), the Bienfait legion branch ($731.63) and the Bienfait Weldon Childcare ($61.25).

Three projects in Carnduff split more than $10,000: the Carnduff Centennial Arena Inc. ($3,704.30), the Carnduff and District Lions Club ($5,683.75) and the Carnduff legion branch ($633.61).

The Carievale Hall and Theatre Bingo received $345, and the Carievale Recreation Board was allocated $213.97.

The New Hope Horse Club in Stoughton received $100.50, and the Tucumseh legion branch, also in Stoughton, received $360.10.

Other projects to receive funding were: the Alida Recreation Hall and Rink Board ($293.15), the Carlyle Cornerstone Family and Youth Centre Inc. ($58.34), the Moose Mountain Elks in Kisbey ($36.98) and the Lampman Playschool ($467.75),
