The blizzard warning for Estevan and other parts of southeast Saskatchewan has come to an end.

Environment Canada officially ended the warning at 6:19 a.m. on Wednesday morning, more than 48 hours after the warning was issued. The storm dumped more than 20 centimetres (eight inches) of snow on the Energy City on Monday, and the snow was whipped around by powerful winds.

The winds persisted into Tuesday, with gusts exceeding 100 kilometres per hour. Travel conditions within the city and outside of Estevan have been treacherous for the last two days. Local police tended to a number of accidents, and advised motorists to stay off the roads.

Crews have been out the last couple of days, trying to keep roads as clear as possible.

While the blizzard warning is over, Estevan is expected to experience below-average temperatures for the next few days. More snow is in the forecast for this weekend.

Highways are also starting to reopen in southeast Saskatchewan. Some remain closed, and travel not recommended advisories are in place for others, but most now have reports of winter conditions existing, thanks to loose and swirling snow, drifting snow, icy and slippery sections, and other issues.

The storm forced a number of cancellations, including the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins road game against the Melville Millionaires. Many of the school bus routes in the southeast have also been cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Canada-U.S. border crossing at Torquay was also closed due to the storm.
