Grant Rodney Forseth passed away at Estevan hospital on January 24, 2007 at the age of 79 years after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He s survived by his loving wife Lila of 58 years; daughter Bonnie Gibson of Bienfait, Bryan (Barbara), Lampman; Patrick (Judy) Stettler; Deanna Ringguth (Bill) Oxbow; Robert, Carnduff/Estevan, 20 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nola Forseth, Estevan; sister-in-law, Florence Forseth, Weyburn.
Grant was predeceased by his father, Harry; mother, Emma; son, Allan in 2004; and his two brothers, Kenneth and David.
Grant was born on May 2, 1927 in a farm house near Macoun. The weather did not co-operate for him the day he was born, and the hired man got lost in a snow storm going for the doctor. His parents moved to the Steelman area when he was a baby. This is where he grew up, getting his schooling at Roseview School, completing his grade nine. Farming was his life!
In 1948 he married Lila Hinrichsen. We then purchased our own farm two miles south of his parents farm, where Grant built our home and all the rest of the buildings himself. This is where we raised our six children. In 1973, due to poor health, we moved, along with our three younger children still living at home, to Carnduff. There we owned and operated a Laundromat and dry cleaning business, later adding a car wash. We sold our business after 15 years and retired at that time. We soon bought a cabin at Mouse River, North Dakota. Grant loved to have the grandchildren come for visits and go for swims in the river with him. He enjoyed taking our family and guests for rides up and down the river on his pontoon boat. For several years, we spent part of the winters in Arizona. Grant spent many hours swimming, playing pool and having games of volleyball with his buddies. He also enjoyed his wood working while there.
Over the years Grant was active in supporting his local community by holding various board positions for both the Kingsford and Lampman United Church; he was a Wheat Pool board member for both Kingsford and Steelman. Grant also held a position on the Surface Rights Association, the Carnduff Theatre board, and was a board member of the Carnduff Credit Union.
In September 2004, due to further failing health, we sold our house in Carnduff and moved to Estevan.
Memorial Services were held on January 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's United Church in Estevan, officiated by Reverend Barnabas. Interment was held at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens.
