Anna Andersen passed away on February 14, 2007 at St. Joseph's Special Care Home.
Anna (Annie) was born on December 20, 1920 in a village near Prague, Czechoslovakia to Anna and John Potoma. In 1928, Annie, her sister Mary and her mother immigrated to Canada to join her father who had immigrated to Canada two years before. The Potoma family lived in Taylorton for several years before moving to the homestead South of Estevan.
On April 15, 1939, Annie married Joseph Andersen. To this union were born five children, Barry, John, Linda, Darryl and Dwayne. Joe and Anne farmed for several years in the valley near Boundary Dam Power Station, prior to relocating to the farm three miles south of Boundary Dam. Annie always worked very hard on the farm to provide for her family, planting and harvesting a large garden and tending to large flocks of chickens, turkeys and other farm animals. Annie loved to pick Saskatoons and given the opportunity would pick all day.
In 1979, Annie and Joe sold the family farm and moved to 616 Rooks Avenue. There she continued her love of gardening and amazed us all at the number of vegetables and flowers she could grow in her small city garden. Annie loved to cook and no one ever left her table hungry.
She loved her eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren very much and always made sure the cookie jar was full. Annie was a very proud grandma and always was interested in her grandchildren's activities.
Annie resided in her home until failing health forced her to move to the nursing home in the summer of 2006.
Annie is predeceased by her husband, Joseph; infant great granddaughter, Danielle; her parents, John and Anna Potoma; her sister, Helen Yoner; her brothers, John and George Potoma.
Left to mourn are her children and their families: Barry and Colleen [Jodi-Lynn and Ted Beck (Blake, Kiersten and Adam), Jason Andersen; John and Doreen {Leslie and Connie Andersen (Thomas and Katherine), David Andersen (Stewart)]; Linda and David Knouse Jennifer, Michelle and Eric; Darryl and Susan [Cindy and Troy Cameron (Zach), Christy Andersen]; Dwayne and Gail [Andrew and Angela]. Annie is also survived by her sister Mary Dengler and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A celebration of Annie's life was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 16 from St. Giles Anglican Church, 317 - 12th Avenue, Estevan, Sask., with Rev. Mike Sinclair officiating.
