Frank Andrew Mehler

Frank Andrew Mehler, late of Estevan and nineteen days short of his 89th birthday, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital, with family members by his side.

Frank was born to Nicholas and Anna Mehler on the family farm near Steelman, Sask., on February 19, 1918. He attended Roseleigh School. After completion of his education, he worked for several farmers in the area; eventually riding the rails to Crooked River where he obtained employment at the saw mill. On December 29, 1943 he married Deloris Hockey and after several years with CNR in Regina, they returned to Steelman where they operated the "picture show" and then the post office. They spent one year in Nanaimo, B.C., but the weather soon forced them back to the cold prairies and to Estevan where he spent the remainder of his life. At this time he worked for his brother at Mehler's Radio & T.V. for fifteen years and painted houses. In the late sixties, he started his own appliance service repair business and continued to do this until only a few months before his passing.

Frank enjoyed many things in his life. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, their activities and accomplishments. His favourite pastimes were dancing, listening to old time music, reading and listening to talk shows. He took pride in his work and had a great passion for his vegetable garden ­ growing enough to share with family and neighbours. Special bird houses, in his back yard, encouraged feather friends to gather, feed and sing for his enjoyment. He enjoyed teasing young and old alike, and has many people know, had a real talent for talking.

He is survived by his wife, Deloris of 63 years; their family, daughter, Marsha (Dave) Bourgeois, their son, Bradley, Kaleden, B.C.; Son, Guy (Jackie), Estevan, their family, Melenee and Scott; Son, Myron (Jacquie), Saskatoon, their family, Kyra (Scott) MacFarlane; Lindsay, Janalyn, Jesse and Justin; Son, Rockey (Gail), Lloydminster, Alta., their family, Alison and Melissa; Daughter, Heather (Darryl) Fee, Swift Current, their family, Dana, Cory (Sherry), Tammy and Micheal; Daughter, Wendy (Curtis) Walliser, Bienfait, their family, Ashley (Tyler) Olson and Janessa; Daughter, Lana (Troy) Bilokraly, Estevan, their family, Nathan, Preston and Lanelle; five great grandchildren; Brothers, Andrew (Eva) Mehler, Ontario; Tony (Sadie) Mehler, Estevan; Sisters, Lena Beckman, Winnipeg, Man.; Betty (Gilbert) Veroba, Lampman; Step-sister, Nancy Heatherington; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Anna; brothers, Nick (Mary Ellen); John (Luella), George; sister, Ann (Howard) Adolph; step brother, John Geisel, Sr.

Funeral services for Frank were held on Monday, February 5, 2007 from St. John the Baptist Church with Father George Misa officiating. Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Prayers were held February 4th, with Doug Third presiding. Interment was at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens.
