It is with great sadness that the family of Jerry Pierson announces his death at St. Joseph's Hospital on Sunday, February 18, 2007. Jerry was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in December 2003 and faced his illness with the same courage, determination and humour that he faced all of life's adversities.

Jerry was born on November 17, 1942 in St. Norbert, Man., moving at a young age to Riverwood Avenue in Fort Garry. Jerry received his education at Viscount Alexander. During high school, he worked part-time at Dominion Stores, joining them full-time after high school, becoming a Store Manager at age 23.

Jerry and Sallie Humphreys were married on May 27, 1967, beginning their family in 1971. In 1977 Jerry became Store Manager of Family Fare on Roblin Boulevard. In 1984, Jerry and his family moved to Estevan, Sask., where he joined the family businesses of his sister-in-law: the Beefeater Motor Inn, Border Wholesale and Sussex Arms. Jerry loved working at "The Beef" (which is now Days Inn) and remained there until his illness forced him to retire in May 2006.

Good times were spent with family at Falcon and Longbow Lake. Although a reluctant traveler at first, Jerry quickly discovered the joy of exploring Canada and enjoying winter vacations and recently spent two weeks in his beloved Puerto Vallarta, returning home on January 19, 2007.

Jerry was a loving, caring, supportive and generous husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is predeceased by his parents, Annette and William; and sister, Theresa Gagnon.

Survived by his wife, Sallie; son, Jay; daughters, Darcy, Estevan, and Kelly (Logan Martin), Estevan; brothers, Bert (Melodye), Estevan; Don (Dianne), Sherwood Park, Alta.; George (Kelly), Regina; brothers-in-law, Gerald Gagnon, Ottawa, Ont.; Grant Humphreys, Winnipeg; sister-in-law, Jan (Bob) Petri, Winnipeg; life-long friend, Ingi Ingaldson; dear friends, Elaine Bennett, Winnipeg, Glen Bennett, Winnipeg, Laraine Thio, Winnipeg; numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

All who knew him admired his integrity and incredible work ethic. Jerry's proudest moments were watching the achievements of Jay, Darcy and Kelly and being involved in their lives.

Heartfelt appreciation is expressed to the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital, Home Care Nurses, Corinne Sandstrom of Sun Country Palliative Care, Dr. Devin Steenkamp and Rev. Mike Sinclair for their professional and compassionate care of Jerry and his family.

Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend M. Sinclair officiating. Interment at Estevan City Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be given to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, or to the Estevan Salvation Army.

Arrangements in care of Orsted Funeral Home, Estevan.
