It is with deep sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Verna Irene Smith on May 7, 2007 at the age of 86. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, deeply missed but not forgotten.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Smith in 1984; infant daughter, Linda; brother, Morley Hart; and all of her sisters, Marguerite Nelson, Dorothy White, Jean Shepherd, Leda Smith and Iris Tizzard.
Verna is survived by her three sons and their families: Edward and Carol (Michael (Dawn), Michelle (Jeff) Myrowich, Mark (Joelle) of Yorkton; Lynn and Patricia (Chris, Dayna (Jon) Graf, Tim) of Regina; John and Carol (Vanessa, Jeff) of Regina; and four great grandchildren.
Verna and her husband Stan Smith raised their family in Estevan, Sask. Verna spent many years working in the Estevan Medical Associates. Later, she worked in HennebergÕs Jewellery Store and in the Jewel Box in Estevan. Verna was in the Rebekah Lodge #23 and was Noble Grand in 1969. Verna went through the chairs of the Estevan Royal Purple and became Honoured Royal Lady in 1974. She was a very gifted crafts person and loved to work with her hands, spending many hours sewing, knitting, crocheting, needle-point, smocking, oil painting and making numerous crafts. Verna also enjoyed playing golf.
In 1990, Verna moved to Regina to be near her family. She spent her later years in Regina Village, then a private care home and her last days at Pioneer Village.
The family wishes to thank the staff on 4B at the Pasqua Hospital and the staff at Pioneer Village for their love and care given to Verna.
A funeral service was held on Friday, May 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. LukeÕs Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina, Sask., with Reverend Willie Lourens celebrant. Interment will occur at a private family function in Estevan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the MS Society of Saskatchewan, 150 Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4R 2N2, would be greatly appreciated.
