Dallas Raphael Yergens

Dallas Raphael Yergens passed away at Regina, Sask., on Saturday, July 7, at the age of 77 years.

He is survived by his wife, Anita, Estevan; daughter, Lori (Brent) Buckenham, Airdrie, Alta.; sons, Bryan Yergens, Hitchcock; Curtis (Diane) Yergens, Saskatoon; Scott (Cathy) Yergens, Edmonton, Alta.; brother, Allan (Doris) Yergens, Outram; sisters, Colleen (Roy) Henderson, West Vancouver, B.C.; Berva MacDonald, Oakville, Ont.; sister-in-law, Shirley Simpson, Regina; brother-in-law, Jerome Eldstrom, Estevan; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Emma Yergens.

He was born on July 2, 1930 at the Creighton Hospital in Estevan. He was the first son of Herbert and Emma Yergens. Dallas was baptized in the Lutheran Church. He attended school in Outram. After school, Dallas began farming, and he loved it. In 1969 the Yergens family was awarded the Master Farm Family for Southern Saskatchewan.

Dallas married Anita Eldstrom on August 17, 1950 at the Outram Church. They had four children together. Dallas and Anita were divorced in 1977.

In 1978, Dallas married Pearl Love and they were married for 19 years. Dallas and Anita were reunited again and shared their retirement years together. Retirement was a new way of life for them. They were snowbirds for half of the year, and he was still involved in the harvest when he was back in Estevan. While wintering in the States, Dallas made clocks, lamps, signs, tractors and combines. He enjoyed curling, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. He was also a sports fan, and was a Blue Jays fanatic. Dallas was a loving grandpa to his 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was healthy until about two months ago, when he was diagnosed with Non-HodgkinÕs Lymphoma at the end of June 2007.

Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 11 from Trinity Lutheran Church, Estevan with Pastor Kathleen Schmitke officiating. Honourary pallbearers were the Estevan Lions Club.
