After a short battle with cancer, Elaine Louise Kimber completed her journey here on earth on Saturday, July 14, 2007.
Elaine was predeceased by her mother Ivy in 1994. She is survived by her father John Kimber (Swift Current), daughter Jennifer (Brett) Howie of Estevan, grandsons Jordan and Nolan. Sisters Bobby (Vince) Peterson of Swift Current, Joan (Larry) Tumback of Lancer, Sask, brother Dwight (Pat) Kimber of Carmichael, Sask., Nieces and nephews: Mike Kimber, Tom Kimber, Michelle (Mike) Long, Cindy Livingston (Kyle Raab), Brittany Peterson, Jesse Peterson.
Elaine was born on May 3, 1944 and grew up in Tompkins, Sask. She completed her schooling in Tompkins and Gull Lake, and then went on to take a secretarial course. She started working for SaskPower at the Estevan Generating Station in 1969. She later worked for SaskPower in Swift Current, Agriculture Canada in Swift Current and Saskatoon before moving home to Tompkins to raise her daughter in 1974. Throughout the next two decades she worked various jobs in the community of Tompkins such as the Co-op store, the Credit Union and most recently, reporting the Tompkins news for the Gull Lake Advance and the Maple Creek Advance Times. In April of 2007, Elaine returned to Estevan to be closer to her grandsons, living in Inglis Court and working part time at the Fields store nearby. She was diagnosed with cancer a short time later.
Elaine loved to sew, play the piano, and in later years, spent time with her grandchildren. She loved listening to music, especially Elvis Presley and the Rolling Stones. She attended the Stone concert in Regina in October, enjoying the event of a lifetime that she talked about enthusiastically!
A memorial service for Elaine was held on Saturday July 21 in Tompkins, Sask. at 11 a.m. at the St Andrews Anglican church.
