On Thursday, July 19, 2007, Helen passed away peacefully in her home in Estevan, Sask. at the age of 96.

Helen was born on May 31, 1911 in Neudorf, Sask to Gustav and Mae Gesell. Helen moved to Estevan at the age of six via Grayson and Breeze, Sask.

Predeceased by husband Phillip George Gent; her parents Gustav and Mae Gesell (nee Wendel); sister Tillie Shween (Saunderson); sister Rose Gesell; brother Ed Gesell; sister Klara Lee; sister Emily Backman; sister-in-law Goody Gesell; brothers-in-law Russell Saunderson, Alex Shween, Raymond Lee, Nels Backman, Roy Backman, and Bill Fiest; daughter-in-law Lois Gent. Also brother-in-law Jim (Winnie) Gent, sisters-in-law Dorothy (Frank) Olsen; Florrie (Mac) MacDonald; and Kathleen (Herman) Widdifield, and nieces and nephews.

Helen is survived by her sisters Dolly Backman of Estevan, Sask. and Ruth Fiest of Calgary, Alta. Also survived by her sons Wayne (Joan) of Sundre, Alta., Don of Merritt, B.C., and Doug (Maureen) of Terrace, B.C. Grandchildren Juanita (Don) Roos; Cindy Gent; Dawn (Dan) Lousenberg; Dahl (Brian) Gisel; Dena Gent; Andrew (Jennifer) Gent; Terry Gent; and Amber Gent. Great grandchildren Jason and Kelsey Roos; Cory and Ethan Lousenberg; Jami and Sean Gisel; Braiden Gent; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Helen spent her school years in Valleyview, Central and Estevan Collegiate. She married Phil Gent of Bienfait, Sask. on September 26, 1936. They spent early married years living briefly in Bienfait then Eastern Colleries Mine site and then the farm one mile south of Bienfait prior to moving back to Estevan in 1958 to their home on Hillside.

Helen spent many years gardening, quilting, cooking, cub scout leader, St. PeterŐs Lutheran Church and enjoying her family. Helen and Phil enjoyed many summers at Kenosee Lake and Boundary Dam Sunset Subdivision building and maintaining their cabin. Phil passed away May 1982 and Helen remained in their home until summer of 2002 when she moved into Hillview Manor.

Her zest for life was spread to all that got to know her and she will be missed.

Funeral services were held at St. PeterŐs Lutheran Church on July 25, 2007 with interment following at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens.
