The funeral service was held in the Boire Funeral Home, Estevan, Sask. on Friday, August 3, 2007 with Mr. Doug Third officiating. Interment followed in the Benson cemetery.

George is survived by two sons, Alvin (Shirley) and Wayne (Audrey); son-in-law Arnett Laughlin; one sister, Edith Wilson; sister-in-laws Edna Corbett and Isobelle Hursh; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.

George was predeceased by his parents Robert J. Griffin and Ida (Sellsted) Griffin; his wife Anna; son Lewis; daughter Gayle; sisters and brother-in-law Edna (R.E.) Rice, Nellie (Philip) Peter, Hazel (Ted) McCudden, Jean (Jack) Keirstead, Walter Wilson, Norman (Florence) Latimer, Howard Corbett, and Sherman Hursh.

George Griffin was born at Hill Hall in 1910, at a home that served as a hospital in the Benson area. He was educated at Verdun School. George took over the farm when he was married to Anna Latimer in the fall of 1932. Farming during the dirty thirties growing very little crops taught one to be thrifty and practical. Recycling everything that could be recycled.

George farmed for 47 years, relocated into Estevan in 1964, and continued helping farm for another 15 years. Once he started golfing, his sons were told to get their own repairs for the machinery and he had to meet his tee time.

He was always fond of his horses and of nature and watching the crops grow. George and Anna took many Sunday drives out to the country to look over the countryside.

As a young boy, George enjoyed many country dances, plays and sports days in the surrounding districts.

George was a member of the Sask. Wheat Pool, Verdun School Board and Rural Benson Telephone. He participated in playing hockey, hard ball and curling. He made several trips to Jan Lake fishing with his sons and old neighbours.

In later years in their retirement they enjoyed many trips to the southern States with Raymond and Yvonne Vantomme, and driving down to Nova Scotia with his sister Nellie and Mary Peter. They also made two trips to Hawaii and went on a cruise to Alaska. George spent many hours reading and playing rummy and cribbage with his old golfing buddies.

George and AnnaÕs 50th anniversary was a big family reunion at Benson in 1982, also with old friends. Their 60th was a supper for friends and family at St. PaulÕs United Church in 1992. They were together for their 67th anniversary, celebrated at the Regional Nursing Home.

George had a passion for nice cars. He wanted to be stylish by driving a fairly new car Š maybe he needed a new one - as there were some dents or bang-ups on his car that werenÕt talked about. He could see the humour in things.

George and Anna were proud of and interested in their grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved their visits and hearing about various life decisions, adventures and pending family additions.
