Henry William Skogberg, beloved husband of Jeannette, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the age of 90 years at the Estevan Regional Nursing Home, with his family at his side.
Henry was born to Peter and Gena Skogberg in Estevan on November 29, 1916. He spent his entire life in Estevan with the exception of a four-year tour of duty during World War II when he served overseas with the Lake Superior Regiment. In 1946, Henry returned to Estevan and began a thirty year career with CP Rail Express.
Henry married Jeannette Berdahl on February 15, 1964 and to this union they welcomed two children, Garth and Johannah.
For many years, Henry was an active member of his church and also the Legion Estevan Branch #60. He particularly enjoyed spending time at his cottage at White Bear Lake that was a popular destination for many friends and relatives. This venue also offered him the opportunity to partake in his joy of fishing, cycling and swimming.
Henry was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Gena Skogberg; two sisters, Lillian Cross and Florence Duncan; three brothers, Carl (Bertha) Skogberg, John (Joan) Pederson and Gordon Pederson; sister-in-law Marion Skogberg and brothers-in-law, Murray Stewart, Ray Anderson, Ole Berg, Aage (Alice) Berdahl, John (Molly) Berdahl, Carl (Elsa) Berdahl, Albin (Ivy) Berdahl and Milton Berdahl.
He is survived by his loving family: wife of 43 years, Jeannette Skogberg of Estevan; son Garth (Monika) Skogberg of Wellesley, Ont.; daughter Johannah Audet (Dan Chestney) of Estevan; three sisters, Hilda Anderson, Mabel Berg and Alice Stewart; brother Clifford Skogberg; brothers-in-law Bill Duncan and Robert Cross and sisters-in-law Alice Dukart, Gloria Berdahl and Peggy (Gilbert), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 9, 2007 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Rev. Clair Denninger officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Boire Funeral Home, Estevan, Sask. and interment was at the Estevan City Cemetery. Those so wishing may make donations to a charity of choice in Henry's memory.
