On Wednesday, August 22, 2007, Marvin passed away at the University Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 51 years.

Marvin was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on January 2, 1956. He received his elementary and high school education in both Macoun and Estevan. After graduating high school, he worked for a few years before attending F.G.B.I. in Eston, Sask. In 1980, he began working in the oil industry and shortly after moved to Drayton Valley, Alberta. A few years later he continued his work in Red Deer, Alberta. This was the beginning of his involvement in the horse industry, a passion that grew in the years to come. Marvin joined the Balon Corporation on July 1, 1995 in Grande Prairie and worked until the time of his death.

During his 12 years in Grande Prairie he became very involved in his community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Division of Evergreen Park. He served on the Board of Directors for Alberta Cattlemen's Penning and Sorting Association. He was an arena announcer for the Peace Country Reining Association. He was the past president of Wapita Reined Cowhorse Association. He was an avid volunteer with PARDS (Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society). He was known for being a great cook, especially for the High School Rodeo Club.

In 2004, Marvin, along with his Penning Team won the Zender Classic in Edmonton. He was also the Alberta Cattlemen's season champion in 2005 and 2006.

Marvin was one of a kind and touched the lives of many people. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother Evelyn; brothers, Ron (Carol) and their children, Jackie (Richard), Blaine (Katrina), Tyler; Robert (Carol) and their children, Carlena and Philip; Malcolm (Wendy) and their children, Sammy, Casey and Callie Joe; Stuart (Sherri) and their children, Ryan and Travis; sister, Lana (David) and their children, James, Gregory and Simon; along with numerous relatives, close friends and colleagues.

He was predeceased by his father, Archie Barbour.

The Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at the Estevan Alliance Church. The interment was held at 10:00 a.m. at the Macoun Cemetery.
