Mary Hazel Evans

On Sunday, September 16, 2007 Mrs. Mary Hazel Evans passed away peacefully at Kamloops Seniors Village, Kamloops, B.C., at the age of 93 years.

She is survived by her loving husband Murray, her two sons Bill (Lois) of Smithers and John (Juanita) of Kamloops, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her sister Muriel Niblett and many nieces and nephews including Iris Heidt of Calgary and Gwen Lacasse of Estevan, Saskatchewan.

Mary was predeceased by her sisters Hilda O'Neil, Edith Hanson and Myrtle Tilley.

Mary was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on October 13, 1913. She taught school in the surrounding rural areas for several years. In 1940 she married Murray and lived at M & S Mines from 1946-1951.

In 1954 the family moved to Kitimat, B.C. after two years in South Burnaby. She watched Kitimat grow from smelly mud hole to bustling community. She and Murray retired to Duncan, B.C. in 1993. Together they spent many happy years there before moving to a retirement complex in Kamloops in September 2002. Mary was a friend to everyone and was loved and remembered by all of those fortunate enough to be touched by her. She was a tireless community volunteer and is still remembered by her former students in rural Saskatchewan, through her final years in Kamloops. She will be deeply missed by her family forever.

No formal service will be held.
