Outdoor exercise

I have to tell you how impressed our family has been with the new Fresh Air Fitness area in Estevan. We love it! If you haven’t heard of it yet, it is located in Woodlawn Regional Park down by the Woodlawn Athletic Park.

I have to tell you how impressed our family has been with the new Fresh Air Fitness area in Estevan. We love it!

If you haven’t heard of it yet, it is located in Woodlawn Regional Park down by the Woodlawn Athletic Park. Volunteers have been working like crazy installing new equipment down there.

In the area fitness area you’ll find all sorts of great exercise equipment, such as climbing ropes, battle ropes, various heights of steel boxes, rings, body weight machines, tires for flipping and pulling, balance beams, etc.

There is also a yoga platform and meditation area (just inside the woods).

If you haven’t been out there I highly recommend you go and check it out. Here’s how we’ve been using it so far.

I downloaded a free app on my phone that lets me customize circuit lengths. It conveniently sounds an alarm when my time is up (while playing my favourite playlists). I go from exercise to exercise as my buzzer sounds, alternating between low and high intensity. It’s a great workout. My kids love to come and play in the area while I work out, and have become quite the climbers. My seven-year-old made it to the top of the climbing rope several times in one day.

We also love to enjoy the trails that have been so wonderfully groomed. We enjoy walking them, sometimes bringing Nerf guns to play with, and we also love to bring a book. My kids love to climb a tree while I read to them from whatever our current novel is.

Down along the river there are also a few geocaches to find. The kids love to use the compass and GPS to lead them to little treasures. We walked almost two hours with friends exploring the trails, bridges and looking for geocaches. It was such a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

Our family would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated and volunteered to dream up and set up such a great addition to our city.
