Bruins edge Hounds, blanked by Millionaires

Club goes 1-2-2 on five-game road swing

The Estevan Bruins closed out a challenging stretch of five road games in six nights with their third blowout loss in their last six games.

The SJHL club lost 6-0 to the Melville Millionaires on Wednesday.

Melville scored two goals in the first period, three more in the second and one in the final period. They got goals from six different players.

Eric Meyer and Lane Harbor scored four minutes apart early in the first period, with Harbor's marker coming on a power play.

Dalton Menke put the Mils ahead 3-0 just 31 seconds into the middle frame, and Drew Litwin and Cole Berreth scored later in the period to make it 5-0.

Reed Mruray closed out the scoring for the hosts on a power play with less than two minutes to go.

Brennen Miller added three assists for Melville.

Shots on goal were 42-26 for the Mils. Estevan's Tyler Gutenberg and Melville's Trevor Martin were the starters, but Gutenberg was replaced after two periods by midget callup Curtis Meger.

On Tuesday, meanwhile, the Bruins edged the league's best team, the Notre Dame Hounds, 3-2 in a shootout in Wilcox.

Estevan's Jason Duret and Notre Dame's Kobe Kindrachuk traded goals 1:24 apart early in the second period.

Ryan Donovan pulled the Hounds ahead 3-2 later in the stanza.

Darcy DeRoose tied the game for Estevan four minutes into the third period.

After a scoreless overtime period, Zach Douglas scored the shootout winner for Estevan.

The Bruins now have eight days off before their next game, which is Oct. 31 at home against the Humboldt Broncos. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Affinity Place.
