Sharks take over the Queen City

The Estevan Sharks water polo club sent three divisions to Regina last Saturday for action at the Lawson Aquatic Centre. Two mini Sharks teams competed in their first road tournament of the season in Regina where the squads played in six games each.

The Estevan Sharks water polo club sent three divisions to Regina last Saturday for action at the Lawson Aquatic Centre.

Two mini Sharks teams competed in their first road tournament of the season in Regina where the squads played in six games each. The Sharks 1 team went 2-4 during the tournament, including a 3-1 over Sharks 2 in the first contest for each team. Sharks 2 went 1-5 during the competition.

Three Sharks atom teams also travelled to Regina with the Sharks 1 boys team and the Sharks girls team capturing division championships.

Sharks 1 began the competition by beating the Sharks 2 boys team 13-4 before notching a 9-6 win over the Regina Armada Green and a 9-5 victory against the Regina Armada Red. The 3-0 record earned the team a berth in the tournament final where they defeated the Regina Armada Green 9-3. The Sharks 2 boys team went 1-3 with their only win coming against the Regina Armada Red by a score of 8-3.

The Sharks atom girls team began the tournament with a 7-4 win over the Regina Armada Grey, which they followed up with a 8-8 tie against the Weyburn Hurricanes. The girls lost their next game 6-5 to the Regina Armada Orange, but they regrouped in time for the finals where they defeated the Regina Armada Orange 8-6 to win the division title.

The Sharks bantam boys and bantam girls teams also hit the water in Regina with the girls going 3-1 to take the division title and the boys coming away with an 1-2 record. The bantam and cadet teams will be in action this weekend in Regina. The winter provincial competition will follow for all divisions on Dec. 10 and 11.
