Twins win two of four on the weekend

The Southeast Performance Pump Twins are starting to hit the win column more frequently in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League.

The Twins (5-13) won 8-6 and 14-2 over the Northwest Pirates in Lloydminster Sunday after a pair of losses in Saskatoon to the Diamond Backs Saturday, 10-3 and 11-1. The Twins are in ninth place out of ten teams in their league.

Sunday, in the first game against the Pirates, the Twins extended their lead with a three run sixth inning to make it 14-2. Tyran Dorrence hit a triple, scored twice and drove in two more in the game, while Alex Kerr had a double in a 2-for-3 day at the place, driving in a pair of runs.  Burke Lyons went the distance on the mound, allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out five and not allowing a single earned run.

In the second game against the Pirates, the Twins took an 8-3 lead into the top of the seventh inning and held on for the 8-6 win. Jayke Smolinski and Ty Nikolejsin combined for five strikeouts, five walks and seven hits allowed in the game. Aiden Krafchuk was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Thomas Husband was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Saturday, the Twins weren’t as successful on the field. In their 10-3 loss, they kept the score close until the sixth inning despite only having three hits. Jose Reyes went 0-for-2 but scored two of the Twins’ runs. Husband allowed five earned runs in five innings on the mound, striking out three.

In the second game the Twins went down 9-1 after allowing five runs in the fourth inning. They only had four hits total in the 11-1 loss, as Hudson Neuberger went 1-for-3 to get their only RBI. Three Twins pitchers combined to allow 12 hits and seven earned runs.

The Twins’ next game is Wednesday night against the Regina White Sox (13-5) at Lynn Prime Field and then they play a doubleheader at the Regina Athletics (7-9) Saturday and a home doubleheader against the Regina Wolfpack (15-3) Monday. Game times Monday are 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
