For nearly four decades, Estevan’s H&R Block has provided the community with sound, trustworthy council. The tax preparation firm, which has been a part of the town’s tightknit community for 39 nears, is an affordable solution for, arguably, the most grueling of chores: filing taxes.

“I think the one major thing is, if you look at an average transaction of somebody bringing in a T4, it’s going to run you around $80 dollars to file a tax return,” explained Lucus Paulhus, the owner of Estevan’s H&R Block. “But the common thing we see again and again and again is anybody trying to do their own tax return, trying to prepare it by hand or by software, we generally are able to look at that tax return and find credits and tax returns that were missed,” he added.
H&R Block is a prime example of the cost value of having assisted tax preparation. “So maybe it’s $80 dollars, but guess what? A lot of times we often find a few hundred dollars in more refunds, all the way up to a few thousand,” Paulhus said. “You’re not saving any money by saying you’re going to do this for free or giving it to your aunt to do – you’re actually leaving money on the table because you didn’t know about those credits.”
H&R Block is the recipient of this year’s Readers’ Choice Award for Best Tax Preparation in Estevan. Though it came as a surprise, Paulhus said he owes it to his staff and the strong legacy formed nearly 40 years ago with the original owners.
