It is one of those beautifully bright and warm Estevan days and you are itching to get you and your loved ones outside. Rather than choose between a leisurely walk around the river and having a picnic at the beach, why not do both, and more, right in your own backyard, at Woodlawn Regional Park.

Woodlawn Regional Park consists of two separate park locations, Woodlawn and Boundary Dam. Woodlawn is nestled along the Souris River and winds through the park. The TS&M 18-hole golf course is found within its borders in addition to the Souris Valley Theatre, which often features live musical performances throughout the summer. Canoe and kayak rentals, walking trails, and baseball, football, and soccer fields are poised to fill your active days off.

Boundary Dam features the Boundary Dam reservoir, the only lake in Saskatchewan that offers year-round large bass fishing. The picturesque gazebo overlooking the lake makes for a surreal wedding backdrop or a romantic first date. With sandy beaches, boat docks, and paddle boat rentals, Boundary Dam is any water-enthusiast’s dream found just minutes out along Highway 47 South.

Between the two parks that make up the Woodlawn Regional Park Banner, everything you would want on a summer day or vacation is offered. Joanne Schulte, the park manager, said “it caters to such a wide variety of users, from the outdoor water sport or fishing enthusiast to the day at the beach for the family, or the leisurely walk through the trails.”

The park authority, Schulte adds, is always looking for opportunities to balance and enhance its visitors’ experience within the park while creating a safe environment. This year at Boundary Dam will see a “Life Jacket Loner Station” established to accommodate newcomers and promote safe activities throughout the park. It will provide life jackets that can be borrowed and returned after use for free.

To help fund future projects within the park, Woodlawn is hosting its first ever Summer Fun Lottery. “With rising infrastructure and maintenance costs, this is a good way for park users to help out the park by purchasing a ticket,” Schulte said. In addition to bringing excitement to the park, the lottery also provides an opportunity to raise much needed funds. “And the bonus of a chance to win a great prize,” Schulte added.
