Saskatchewan’s Southeast Chorus and North Dakota’s Northwest Chorus and Orchestra presented their 49th annual Celebration of Christmas music. Fifty-four singers from both sides of the border are part of this year’s concert.

This year’s theme is A Star is Born, and many of the selections are connected to the theme, such as the opening song of Alleluia! Christ is Born! The show offers a chance for chorus members to showcase their talents through solos, narration and instrumental performances.

But there is also humour through such songs as Ugly Christmas Sweater. The performance wraps up with a Christmas-themed rendition of Leonard Cohen’s classic Hallelujah.

A large crowd filled St. Paul's to listen to the music.

Shauna Meek of Estevan and Harlan Johnson of Crosby, N.D., are the directors. Danielle Evenson of Estevan is the principal accompanist and Allison Holzer, also of Estevan, is the secondary accompanist.

Chorus members started rehearsals in early September. They met each Tuesday in Crosby to get ready for the concert.

Another performance will be held Sunday at Concordia Lutheran Church in Crosby.
