Three Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) students are members of the Saskatchewan Provincial Honour Band.

Julie Frostad, Emily Frostad and Curtis Phillipchuk auditioned in May and will rehearse Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Regina. The concert will be presented at the conclusion of the Sask. Music Educators Association Convention. An honour choir and string orchestra will also perform.

Julie is in Grade 12 and plays bassoon, Emily plays trombone in Grade 11, and Phillipchuk is a percussionist also in Grade 11.

The conductor for the honour band is Gareth Jones, an adjunct professor at the University of Calgary. He is the director of the university’s wind ensemble as well as the symphonic band. Jones is also a director of Calgary’s professional wind ensemble. He has conducted ensembles across Western Canada, Mexico and the United States. Jones continues to play trumpet with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra whenever his conducting schedule allows.

The honour groups concert will take place on Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the Living Hope Alliance Church in Regina. It will be open to the public.
