An Estevan woman is vying to be on the cover of Inked Magazine for the first time.

Anna Volmer said she decided to enter the contest for fun, and to showcase all of the tattoos that she has. She has had 26 tattoos over the years, and she’s planning on adding a few more.

“I never really had a reason of why I got so many tattoos,” said Volmer. “I simply love the look of a tattoo-covered body as long as they are beautifully done, not offensive, and tastefully placed. It's like a beautiful accent wallpaper in a room. Who doesn't like that?”

She believes the ink simply accents the body.

An animal lover, her first tattoos were a dog and a cat on her forearms.

Volmer has reached the second round of the competition. The contestants are separated into groups, and the top 15 from each group advanced to Round 2.

From there, the top 10 from this round move on; Volmer is currently in 11th, so she could use more support.

“I have five more days to make it into the top 10,” said Volmer.

Ever since she was a teenager, she has admired heavily tattooed people.

“I have an empty canvas, and I like to decorate. To me, it just looks good. There’s no particular reason. It’s just with every tattoo, I feel like I’m more me.”

This is the first time that Volmer has entered the contest to be on the cover of Inked Magazine, but not her first time in a contest like this. Previously, she was challenging to be on the front cover of Ms. Health and Fitness Magazine, which showcased her commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Volmer said it’s a similar system, with public voting instead of a panel that makes a decision on the winner.

People can go to her Instagram (annasmothtattoo) or her Facebook profile to get to the link to vote for her. Voting for this round ends at 10 p.m. Sask. time on Feb. 4.

The Mercury will have an article Sunday with Stephanie Baker, who is entered in the contest for the third straight year. Other articles will follow in future days.
