A local woman is pleased that she has advanced to the next round in the Inked Magazine Cover Girl contest, and she is looking for the public’s support.

Trish Boulding finished in the top 10 in the most recent round of voting that ended Thursday. Now she’ll need to finish in the top five if she’s to advance again.

If she were to win, she would not only get to be on the front cover of the magazine, but she would use the $25,000 prize to pay off her truck and make a down payment on a house.

She entered the contest on a whim to see how she would do.

“I honestly didn’t think I would make it this far, but it was worth a try. I’ve seen it before, but I never actually entered.”

Another reason why she chose to enter the competition is when she was in her late teens, she used to model in Saskatoon. At one fashion show, there were four designers and she was only allowed to walk for one because the other designers did not like tattoos.

She was also turned down for work with a modelling agency back then because of the tattoos.

So it’s nice to see that tattoos are becoming the new thing, she said.

“I actually have three tattoo appointments coming up … in the next couple months,” said Boulding, who said she has 16 tattoos, and they’re large ones.

Tattoos are an opportunity to express herself, and many of them have important personal meaning to her.

“I actually think tattoos feel really good. Some people would think I’m crazy, but it’s almost like a massage in a way, and it’s therapy.”

Her favourite is a tribute to her grandfather who passed away two years ago. She has a horse and two people fishing in honour of him. A full sleeve tattoo is a tribute to her grandparents.
