Alameda’s McKenzie Warriner finished second in the voice competition at the National Music Festival, which was held in Sackville, N.B., from Aug. 12-16.

Warriner, who sings soprano, participated in the Estevan and District Music Festival earlier this year. Her strong showing locally earned her a spot in the vocal division of the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association’s provincial competition in June.

She was selected to go to nationals following her performance at provincials.

She has also competed in the Carnduff and District Music Festival in the past.

Seventy-one of Canada’s best young musicians, ranging in age from 12-27, were in Sackville to compete and represent their province in eight disciplines: piano, strings, voice, woodwinds, brass, classical guitar, chamber ensembles, and musical theatre. Competitions and master classes took place on the Mount Allison University campus.
