The Souris Valley Theatre’s performance of Pirate Heart, the musical written by Lampman’s Maureen Ulrich, will not be going ahead Saturday due to the heat.

“While cancelling a show is never an easy decision, we do have a policy in place that bars us from operating the theatre when the temperature inside the facility exceeds 33 degrees Celsius,” explained theatre manager, Lyn Vilcu.

Frehlich Hall isn’t insulated nor is it air conditioned, and even though large fans have been able to keep the temperature down just below the threshold for performances this week, the anticipated 39 degree Celsius heat would not be cooling down enough in time to perform the play.

Safety of all patrons, volunteers, cast, and crew is a priority for the Souris Valley Theatre, Vilcu said.

Those who have already bought tickets for the show Saturday night can call 306-461-6869 to arrange a refund or exchange for another of the Pirate Heart’s performances.

The show is expected to continue as scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14-18, as well as a matinee at 2p.m. Aug. 16.
