Southeast Sask. resident excels in Inked Magazine contest

Trina Hansen-Flath is in a new round in the Inked Magazine Cover Girl contest, but the result, so far, has been the same.

The Stoughton resident, who works in Estevan and has lived in the Energy City previously, finished first in her preliminary group, and in the top-15 round of the competition. Now she is in the top-10 round, and is in first place once again.

The top five finishers in her group will advance to the next round. Voting ends at 10 p.m. Sask. time on Thursday.

She decided to enter because she wanted to do something different, rather than just working. And she’s stunned at how well she has done.  The support for her in the contest, as well as in other ventures in her life, leaves her feeling grateful.

“I absolutely didn’t think that it would reach that level. I guess just trying to focus on getting my name out there and continuing to post daily to try to win votes is what’s helping,” said Hansen-Flath.

It helps that she had a really good photographer in Deanna Brown.

“She followed what I wanted to go with, which was more of a fun, natural look,” said Hansen-Flath. “She captured my personality.”

Hansen-Flath has lived in many places in Saskatchewan over the years, and she believes those relationships have helped her in this competition.

By her count, Hansen-Flath has nearly 20 tattoos, and many are quite large. She has tattoos on both feet, the side of her hip, most of her back, her upper left shoulder, her right lower arm and hand, her left hand, both of her rib cages, the back of her neck and her chest.

Many of her tattoos were completed by Shanda Tegart, an artist who used to live in the southeast.

“I feel that every time I get a tattoo I feel more whole and more content. I feel like I’m more complete every I get something done from piercings to tattoos,” she said.

Her favourite is a memorial tattoo for her mother Lynda on her back. Her mom died in a car accident when Hansen-Flath was 14, and she two mourning fairies, which are basically angels with their heads wrapped in their arms, and Lynda’s name between the angels.
